Cantabria in northern Spain is renowned for its lush countryside and is known as 'green Spain'. It is set on the Atlantic coast and enjous a temperate climate. There is well preserved natural beauty with several National Parks along with miles of beautiful coastline and a majestic mountain backdrop.
Day 1 - We start with a local departure for the Channel crossing to the Continent. Continue to our overnight stopover.
Day 2 - After breakfast we continue to northern Spain. Here accommodation has been reserved for 5 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at a carefully chosen hotel.
Days 3-6 – We have included these great excursions:
- Sentillana del Discover this beautiful town which, despite its name is actually inland. Wander round the picturesque cobbled streets lined with attractive stone buildings or browse the craft shops and galleries. There is also a lovely church with a walled cloister
- Cantabrian coast. Enjoy this tour of the spectacular landscape of gently rolling valleys and lush green pastures backed by imposing mountains. There are some delightful beaches, sheltered coves and once ancient fishing ports. We stop in Comillas – one of the most attractive coastal villages in Spain. We continue to San Vicente de la Barquera and its wonderful old town. Throughout the tour the backdrop will be the snow capped Picos de Europa Mountains
- Santander. Enjoy time in the region’s capital city. Highlights include the historic old town with its narrow lanes and the Magdalena Palace. This was built by King Alfonso XIII as the summer palace for the royal family.
As well you can join this great value optional excursion:
- The Picos de Europa Mountain range. We visit Potes where you have a chance to visit the Tower of Infantado. Afterwards visit the Monastery de Santo Toribo. There are magnificent views of the Picos de Europa from here. Finally we visit Fuente De. Here you can join the cable car, (extra cost), for more incredible views. Price: £19.95 per person
Day 7 – Depart for France and our overnight stopover.
Day 8 – Continue home, arriving back later on.
