We start with a local departure for our journey north to Leeds. This is a great place to pick up that elusive Christmas gift. The main shopping area is compact and traffic free. All the major high street names are here as well as a host of interesting shops, trendy boutiques and Harvey Nichols! After the chance to have an early evening meal – Leeds has a great choice of bars, cafes and restaurants – we continue to our overnight hotel where accommodation is reserved on a bed and English Breakfast basis. After checking in the remainder of the evening is at your leisure.
On day 2, after breakfast, we set off for Castle Howard. Set in 1,000 acres of garden and parkland it is one of the great houses of England which is transformed at Christmastime. You can make your own way around the rooms at leisure, marvelling at the treasures which include outstanding works of art, over 300 pieces of fine porcelain and a stunning collection of sculptures. If the weather is fine the beautiful garden is also worth exploring. There are also shops, including a farm shop and chocolate shop. During the early afternoon we commence our journey home arriving back later on.
