Your Itinerary
Day 1
Departure from selected local pick up points and travel to the channel port from where we take the short sea crossing to the Continent. We continue to make our way to the Caen area of France where overnight accommodation has been reserved on a bed and continental breakfast basis.
Day 2
After breakfast we travel to the picturesque medieval settlement of Mont St. Michel where we will have some free time before we continue to our hotel located in the Le Bono area. Here accommodation has been reserved for the next 4 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Day 3
Today we visit the major tourist town of VANNES. Modern Vannes is a large and thriving community with the 'old' walled town at its core. Once inside the ramparts, the old centre of chaotic streets – crammed around the cathedral, and enclosed by gardens and a tiny stream – is largely pedestrianized the streets of the old city, with their overhanging, witch-hatted houses and busy commercial life, are the chief source of pleasure. Place Henri-IV in particular is stunning, as are the views from it down the narrow side streets. From here we visit Rochefort en Terre which ranks among the most delightful villages in Brittany. Every available stone surface, from the window ledges to the picturesque wishing well, is festooned with colourful geraniums.
Day 4
Our excursion today takes us firstly to the pretty fishing port of St. Goustan before we continue to Carnac which is between the original Carnac-Ville and the seaside resort of Carnac-Plage. The town and seafront remain well wooded, and the tree-lined avenues and gardens are a delight. The alignments at CARNAC – rows of 2000 or so menhirs, or standing stones, are the most important prehistoric site in Europe, long predating Knossos, the Pyramids, Stonehenge or the great Egyptian temples of the same name at Karnak. From here we take in the port of Quiberon before we return to the hotel via the scenic Cote Sauvage Coastal Route.
Day 5
After breakfast we travel to Josselin - a beautiful medieval town set on the river Oust, boasting a delightful château coupled with an excellent town square that offers many restaurants and cafes overlooking the Basilica de Notre Dame du Roncier. This afternoon we will visit a farm to taste some of the local produce such as pate and cider (Admission included)
Day 6
Check out of the hotel following breakfast and travel to the city of Tours. Located on the lower reaches of the Loire River, Tours is the largest city in the Loire Valley. The surrounding Touraine region is known for its wines and châteaux. The religious importance of Tours centres on the popular figure of St. Martin, Bishop of Tours whose relics were the focus of medieval pilgrimages. Another important figure is Gregory of Tours, a church historian and bishop in the 6th century. All but two towers of the great medieval Basilica of St. Martin was destroyed in the Revolution, but this has since been replaced with a basilica that enshrines the few relics of Martin that survived the destruction. The Flamboyant Gothic Cathedral of St. Gatien has some fine 13th-century stained glass windows. During the afternoon we travel to the Greater Paris area for our overnight stay.
Day 7
We have included a panoramic tour of the city of Paris, taking in some of the many famous sights and monuments. Afterwards we commence our journey to the channel port from where we take the short sea crossing to the UK and onwards back to you local area.
