Day 1 - We start with a local departure and travel via the cross Channel ferry or Eurotunnel to the Continent. Continue to France / Germany for our overnight stopover hotel. Accommodation has been reserved on a bed and Continental breakfast basis in rooms with private facilities
Day 2 – continue to Austria. Here accommodation has been reserved for 7 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at the 3* Hotel Lukashansl. This is located in Bruck, close to Zell am See. The area is renowned for its glorious mountain scenery. The hotel is family run and has a good reputation for its cuisine. All rooms have private facilities and there is a lift, bar and restaurant.
During your stay we have a great excursion programme lined up:
- A visit to the Hohenwerfen Fortress. The castle dates back over 900 years and was featured in the film ‘Where Eagles Dare’. In the afternoon we take you to the Dachstein Glacier. Here we have included a cable car ride for you to experience the glorious views. For an extra charge, payable locally, (approximately 15 Euros), you can walk along the new suspension bridge which gives a view over the Alps. The bridge is 81 metres long and connected with an Ice Palace. A visit to the Sky Walk is This is perhaps the most breathtaking viewing platform in the Alps and the very top of the 250 metres vertical drop of the Hunerkogel rock face. Parts of the platform are made of glass!
- A visit to the alpine cabin Trauner Alm – which belongs to the hotel. A shuttle bus will bring us close to the alpine cabin and those who are less able can be brought directly to the hut. After a short walk on a flat road lunch and live music await you. Enjoy the fresh air in the mountains before returning back to the hotel
- Krimml waterfalls. Today we travel through some unforgettable scenery to the Krimml Falls. These are widely regarded as some of the best in Europe and descend over 3 mighty stages. Afterwards we take you to board the narrow gauge Pinzgau Steam Railway as it meanders its way through to one of the most picturesque areas of Austria – the Pinzgau Valley. Spend some time in the lakeside resort of Zell am See where you can have a stroll along the lakeside promenade or through the picturesque village centre before returning back to our hotel
- A journey along the Grossglockner high alpine road. The Grossglockner is Austria’s highest mountain, (3798 metres), and its glacier – the Pasterze – is located amongst a unique world of mountains, blossoming alpine meadows, fragrant forests and massive cliffs. Keep your eyes open for local wildlife – the Marmots. Don’t forget your camera!
Day 9 - Depart after breakfast for our journey home. We make our way to our overnight stopover in France / Germany.
Day 10 - Continue our journey home arriving back later on.
