We start with a local departure for our journey via the cross Channel ferry or Eurotunnel to the Continent. Accommodation has been reserved in Belgium for 2 nights on a bed and continental breakfast basis. All hotels are located within coaching distance of Ghent.
On day 2 we head for Ghent itself. With its cobbled streets and Mediaeval architecture, Ghent provides the most wonderful backdrop for the stunning Floralies. Stroll along the beautiful Graslei with its historical Guild Houses: enjoy the cityscape at St Michael’s Bridge and don’t miss the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb – the Van Eyck brothers’ masterpiece located in St Bavo’s Cathedral.
Floralies started in 1809 as a modest exhibition of only 50 plants. It has now become a hugely popular horticultural event on the grandest of scales. Wander inspirational show gardens: marvel at botanical treasures: and examine some of the rarest and most unusual floral creations from across the world.
On day 3 we enjoy a short stop at the beautiful city of Bruges before making our way home.
