We start with a local departure for our journey via the cross Channel ferry or Eurotunnel to France. From here we continue to our overnight stopover where accommodation has been reserved on a bed and continental breakfast basis.
Day 2 - we continue south to Germany where we have accommodation reserved at a good class hotel within coaching distance of Wurzburg.
Day 3 – this morning we will visit the magnificent Residenz and our tour brings to life its splendid history and architecture. We then travel back in time along the ‘romantic road’ evoking a poetic past of Mediaeval towns and Teutonic chivalry. We meet the 17th century head on as we arrive in Rothenburg.
Day 4 – today we enjoy a drive through the scenic Steigerwald natural park to Bamberg. This is one of Europe’s most beautiful small cities and a UNESCO World Heritage site. A walking tour is included and, as well, you can explore Bamberg’s tangle of lanes lined with merchant’s houses and picturesque main square with its traditional daily market.
Day 5 – today we leave Wurzburg and head downstream along the River Main valley to another stunning historic town – Wertheim. This nestles beautifully at the confluence of the Main and the Tauber. We follow the valley and continue to Miltenberg – one of Germany’s most beautifully preserved Mediaeval villages, and then continue along the Niebelungstrasse route.
Day 6 – today we visit nearby Heidelberg. A guided walking tour is included. Heidelberg nestles by the picturesque Neckar Valley and is dominated by its imposing castle high on the wooded hillside.
Day 7 – we commence our journey home, travelling to our overnight stopover in France.
Day 8 – continue back, arriving home later on.
