The traditional seaside part of the town blends into the picturesque thatched cottages of Shanklin old town at the head of the impressive Shanklin Chine. Although a quieter and more intimate resort than Sandown it nevertheless has its own theatre, lively pubs and entertainments.

We stay at the 3* Shanklin Hotel. This is set in town with superb views from the restaurant. The old village is a few minutes walk away and the beach is accessible via the nearby cliff. Features include a dance floor, indoor pool, sauna, games room and indoor bowls area.

A journey inland to Newport with its range of historic attractions and independent shops. We continue to Ryde which offers many shops and a magnificent pier with outstanding views across the busy Solent
Godshill – a picturesque village well known for its 15^th century church, thatched cottages and local products
