We start with a local departure and take you north to Harrogate – an attractive Georgian spa town. You can explore the town before checking in to our hotel. Four nights dinner, bed and breakfast accommodation is reserved at the popular Cairn Hotel. It stands in 4 acres of ground. It is approximately a 5 minute walk to the town centre. All rooms are well appointed and features include a bar and restaurant. The royal pump room museums and Betty'a Tea Rooms are approximately a ten minute walk away.
On day 2 we take you by coach to nearby York. You can admire this beautiful walled city with Roman and Mediaeval architecture in abundance. Don’t miss landmarks such as the magnificent Minster and the quaint Mediaeval Shambles. You can visit the National Railway Museum with its large collection of carriages and locomotives. For a unique view walk along the 13th century city walls.
On day 3 we take you by coach to Goathland – made famous as Aidensfield in ‘Heartbeat’ – and then continue to Whitby. Crowned by its brooding abbey and famous as the setting for Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ Whitby boasts some of the UK’s finest fish and chip restaurants. There is time to explore before we board the North Yorkshire Moors Railway back to Pickering. This enthralling journey by steam crosses the breathtaking North Yorkshire Moors and sees you travel in heritage carriages. Please Note: The train might be hauled by diesel – we have no control over this.
On day 4 we enjoy a nostalgic journey on the heritage Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. From Keighley the steam hauled trip takes you up the Worth Valley to Oxenthorpe, passing the rugged hills, rustic stone cottages and wild farmland immortalised in the 1970 film ‘The Railway Children’. Later continue to the picturesque village of Haworth, stopping at the Bronte Parsonage, home to the famous literary sisters. It was here amongst the dramatic landscape that the Brontes were inspired to write novels such as ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Jane Eyre’.
On day 5 we return back home. There will be some time in the morning to visit one of the town’s most beautiful parks, Bettys Tearooms or the well known spa.
